If you’re a vineyard owner or manager one of the biggest questions you should be asking yourself, and more importantly asking your customers, on a regular basis is whether your website helps your customers or frustrates the hell out of them.  As someone who spends the majority of their day on a computer, is passionate about all things wine and writes a wine blog, I come across very many vineyard websites on a regular basis, and unfortunately many of them just plain suck.  Are you guilty of having a bad …

2010 Anthony Road Dry Riesling

Earlier this summer my Fiancée went on a girls weekend camping trip to the Finger Lakes region of New York with her best friend and two cousins. Not only was the Finger Lakes a convenient central location for all involved it’s also home to our favorite wine region (as anyone who reads this site probably already knows). Being the great Fiancée that she is, she was kind enough to bring me some gifts from around the region.
Last week I opened the first bounty from her weekend escape, a 2010 Anthony …

I had the opportunity to visit Lamoreaux Landing Wine cellars on a trip to the Finger Lakes this past winter.  It had made my short list after a number of prominent accolades, such as Wine & Spirits winery of the year, as well as a significant buzz in social media arenas.  I am certainly glad I was able to make it, as there were a number of standout wines.
One of the notable whites in particular was their 2007 Chardonnay.  I recently tasted a bottle I brought home for review and …

Almost as if I had intended it, I was set to write a review today of a 2007 Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars Chardonnay when it was announced  by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation that the winery was this year’s New York State Winery of the Year winner.  According to the foundation’s website, the award is presented to the winery with the best overall showing based on the level and number of awards in relation to entries.
This news follows Lamoreaux Landing being recognized last year by Wine & Spirits …

Kung Fu Girl Riesling

Being a fan of Finger Lakes wine that I am, I often find myself searching out similar varietals from other regions, especially Riesling and Cabernet Franc. Last week, at one of my local wine shops I came across the 2010 Kung Fu girl Riesling from Columbia Valley Washington by Charles Smith Wines and decided to give it try.
I tried this wine of two days and both times paired with food. On the day one, the nose was a nice balance of sweet peaches and lime citrus. On tasting, the wine …

2010 Red Trail Ridge Rose

Living in Connecticut it often comes as a surprise when I’m in my local wine shop that I see more than one or two token Finger Lakes wines.  They usually one of the top monster producers, names most have heard of, and also usually a Riesling.  After living in the state for 6 years now it still amazes me how hard wines from our neighbor state are to find, but that’s best saved for another article.
So it naturally came as a bit of shock when stocking up for a weeklong …

NY State Seal

On Friday July 22, 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo (NY) signed a piece of legislation 3 years in the making that would benefit the NY wine industry. The aim of this bill is to reduce the regulatory burdens on farm wineries by the State Liquor Authority.
“This bill is a huge boost for wineries across the state. Reducing the regulatory burdens on farm wineries will allow them to continue to thrive as a key tourism, agricultural, and economic engine for our state. I want to thank Commissioner Aubertine, Senator Young and Assemblyman Schimminger …

Whether you are new to wine or a seasoned professional the best way to learn about wine is to get out and try as many different wines as you can get your hands on. If you are lucky enough to live close to a wine region, plan a trip and visit a few tasting rooms. Is a wine region not a short drive away? Then make a stop at your local wine shop the next time they are hosting a wine tasting (check their website first, many offer free tastings …

As published in the special New York Cork Report “What We Drank (July 6, 2011): Dedicated to Deb Whiting, Dave Whiting and Red Newt Cellars“.

This past December during the week between Christmas and New Years I had my very first opportunity to visit Red Newt Cellars, a winery I had often enjoyed when attending the Finger Lakes Wine Festival.
I planned my tour of Southeast Seneca so I would arrive around lunch time in order to finally try firsthand the culinary samplings served up by resident chef Deb Whiting, whom I …

In an effort to further illustrate how backwards the state of Connecticut is with regards to its liquor laws, starting tomorrow a new state law is going into effect raising taxes an additional 20%.  This probably comes as a shock to most, unless you’re very close with your local package store owner, as the tax hike has been surprisingly quiet in the media.
As report by the local blog Food + Beer, Three Seas Liquor in Stamford foresees a bottle of liquor selling today for $29.99 will be selling tomorrow for $31.99.  This …

Simply put, I love wine!  But then again, that should come as no surprise if you’ve managed to find your way to this site.

My interest in wine started as I bartended my way through college in upstate New York at various bars, pubs, night clubs and even a yacht club.  When I graduated however it was time to move on and start a career where I could apply that college degree.
Luckily for me, the road I started upon included the opportunity to travel the world, and with it the chance to …
